Software subscription audit checklist
A subscription audit works best when it is a repeatable review, not a once-a-year panic. Start with an inventory, then validate ownership and value.
1. Inventory every recurring tool
List the product, plan, billing period, owner, currency and next renewal. Include tools paid personally and tools reimbursed by clients.
2. Mark usage and ownership
Separate tools you use weekly from tools kept for a specific client or occasional project. Unclear ownership is where duplicate spend hides.
3. Decide, document and revisit
Cancel, downgrade or retain each item with a reason. Keep the decision next to the tool record so the next audit starts with context.
